In our most recent newsletter, we discussed the importance of creating a sustainable organization. Each organization should step back and consider what obstacles are limiting its ability to survive and thrive over a long period of time.
Here are some questions to answer that could assist you in identifying those obstacles:
• Is the critical knowledge needed within the organization retained solely in someone’s head?
• If someone within the organization won the lottery and didn’t return to work, would this cause a problem?
• Does everyone perform the organization’s critical tasks based on each person’s preferred method?
• Does an onslaught of new business overwhelm the organization?
If you answer “yes” to any of the above, your organization needs to take steps to enhance the sustainability of the organization.
