Challenges on Delivering ROI

The challenges to delivering return on investment (ROI) are driven by the challenges facing operational effectiveness. They, in many situations, are closely aligned. Those challenges include but are not limited to:

  • Defining the processes and methodologies required to best support your Customers
  • Providing the tools and resources Staff need to be well equipped, well trained, and empowered to support those Customers’ needs
  • Establishing metrics to assess the effectiveness of the organization
  • Creating standardized communication to Staff and Customers that reduces confusion

Mastering the challenges that face an organization will ultimately create the sustainability that is so greatly desired.

Balancing ROI and Operational Effectiveness

I recently had a conversation with an Investor and he advised that most Investors only bring in Experts to look at operations when an issue has been identified. The challenge with this is that then the cost to fix the problem is always greater than building operational effectiveness within a Company.

ROI (return on investment) is so important to the ongoing success of a Company, yet this must be balanced with the cost required to build repeatable processes that will position the Company for sustainability and growth. Management and/or Investors often are so focused on the bottom line that they do not realize that ROI is not as easy to obtain if there is not operational effectiveness.

ROI and Sustainability

In our most recent newsletter, Eddie Reeves shared his insights on the Five Mistakes That Kill Your Marketing ROI. So how does this align with sustainability? Understanding how those day-to-day tasks have implications to a Company’s ROI (return on investment) is essential for its ongoing success and sustainability.

In an article within Zacks.com, it stated: “The strategic and operational fundamentals of the underlying businesses affect investment returns. Strategy involves positioning a company to take advantage of opportunities and responding effectively to competitive threats. Operational execution involves managing costs, expanding into new markets and continually innovating to stay ahead of the competition.” Clearly, paying attention to those fundaments impacts both ROI and sustainability.

What are you doing to ensure this sustainability? Are you building repeatable processes? Are you establishing consistent, standardized methodologies, processes, and communication that strengthen your organization? Are you working towards operational effectiveness? All these help manage the implications on your ROI.
